First things first, your swimming pool heater pilot is very similar to the one in your oven, water heater, and/or furnace. So many of you will already know how to do this. Begin by removing the heater panel door. Now take some time to inspect the inside of the cabinet for junk and clear this out so there will not be any fires. At this point if you do not feel comfortable please call a pool service company. You will see a gas pipe running to a gas valve and a pilot tube coming out of the right side of the gas valve.

Second, obtain a long lighter and a mirror you do not care about or that also does not have flamable material around it. Follow the pilot tube to where the pilot is inside the cabinet. Place the mirror so you can see the pilot easily. There is a plastic button on top of the gas valve. You will need to revolve it to the pilot post. Now push down on the button and hold it. Use your other hand to light the pilot. Continue to hold the button down on the gas valve for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
